Key occurrences likely to shape healthcare predictive modeling efforts in 2018 will revolve around quests for new data sources that will shed light on other significant factors within and especially outside the healthcare environment – affecting major healthcare outcomes.

While 2017 was the year of extensive conversations around social determinants of health (SDOH) – trying to assess the impact and value, related use cases, legal hurdles, etc. – I think the major trend in 2018 will be implementation of the first novel predictive modeling solutions incorporating SDOH, either alone or in conjunction with legacy healthcare data. I lead an effort that will soon result in the availability of a 30-day Readmission model, Total Healthcare Risk model, Motivation/Engagement Propensity model and MedAdherence model. All will be based solely on SDOH data. Stay tuned
